Ancora poche ore prima della premiere del teaser della puntata pilota della TV/Web series “Totò e Daiana (Calcio, Caffè e Fish & Chips)”, la nuova divertentissima serie scritta ed interpretata da Anna Elena Pepe e Marco Gambino. Scritta in collaborazione con lo storico autore di Rosario Fiorello, Francesco (Ciccio) Bozzi, la web serie è diretta da Riccardo Sai. Il teaser oggi alle 12,30 su:

“Totò e Daiana” nasce in una bella serata di giugno a Roma.
In una splendida terrazza, di quelle che ti fanno pensare alla Grande Bellezza,
C’è una tavola imbandita. Ci sono ospiti raffinati e c’è anche la mia giovane amica e collega Anna Elena Pepe. Durante la cena, quando tra i vari argomenti si parla dei dialetti regionali italiani e di quanto questi siano importanti per la nostra cultura, chiedo ad Anna Elena (che è di Ferrara ) di raccontarci com’è “la parlata ferrarese”, se ha delle particolarità sonore o di altro tipo. Ed ecco che lei pensa bene di rispondere in dialetto. Sin dalla prima battuta la ragazza si trasforma, diventa un’altra! Anna Elena è minuta, ha una voce dai toni alti, tipo soprano leggero. Il dialetto ferrarese riesce a trasformarla non solo vocalmente, con certe insospettate note basse, ma anche fisicamente. Preso dall’entusiasmo le rispondo in “Palermitano”.
Gli ospiti trovano il nostro duetto esilarante. Ridono a crepapelle. Alla fine della serata, Anna Elena ed io ci salutiamo con “dobbiamo assolutamente creare qualcosa insieme”.
Nasce cosi, dopo qualche mese, “Totò e Daiana, calcio , caffe e fish and chips “. Un progetto di Anna Elena Pepe e Marco Gambino.
Totò è un rinomato chef palermitano che da più di 30 anni lavora a Londra come Food Consultant per i più importanti ristoranti italiani della capitale. Daiana è una ragazza di Ferrara che si è appena trasferita a Londra e per ora fa la parrucchiera da casa. Queste due vite molto diverse si incontrano per caso in un ristorante siciliano, quando un giorno Daiana irrompe all’improvviso. Ha l’urgenza di trovare un televisore per vedere la partita della squadra della sua città, la SpalL, tornata in serie A dopo 50 anni.
Sullo sfondo di Londra, città ammaliatrice, ma anche difficile ed in preda alla Brexit, le storie di Totò e Daiana s’intrecciano. I nostri eroi uniti dal comune destino di espatriati affronteranno insieme una serie di avventure che consolideranno la loro nuova speciale amicizia, grazie alla quale entrambi riusciranno a dare una svolta alle loro vite.
Totò e Diana è un progetto rivolto non solo agli Italiani che vivono a Londra, ma anche agli Inglesi che oggi vivono in questa città ed ha lo scopo di aiutare sia gli uni che gli altri nel non facile esercizio di capirsi meglio a vicenda.
Riccardo Sai ( regista ) dice: “Cosa vuole dire essere emigrato italiano nel Regno Unito all’ombra della Brexit? Con Totò e Daiana ho voluto parlare di questo senza focalizzarmi solamente sugli aspetti negativi, ma anche sui lati più divertenti e surreali di questa esperienza. Ho scelto di parlare di emigrazione con leggerezza, facendo riflettere ma anche ridere, perché credo questo sia la migliore strada per arrivare al cuore della gente”
La puntata pilota di Totò e Daiana, finalista al Roma Web Fest , si arricchirà presto di 8 nuovi episodi.

“ Totò and Daiana” was born on a beautiful June evening in Rome,
in a splendid terrace, one of those that makes you think of ‘the Great Beauty’
There is a lavishly laid table. There are refined guests and there is also my young friend and colleague Anna Elena. Over dinner, while people are talking about dialects and how important they are for our culture, I ask Anna Elena (who’s from Ferrara) to tell us what “the Ferrarese dialect” sounds like , if it has any particular sound or other peculiarities. Anna Elena goes straight to the point by answering in ferrarese dialect and… she instantly changes. She literally becomes another person! Anna Elena is petite, she has the hight pitched voice of a light soprano … The Ferrara dialect turns her into a baritone! In return I decide to answer back in my own Palermo dialect. We improvise a little gig. The guests find our duo exhilarating. They can’t stop laughing. So at the end of the evening, during the good byes Anna Elena and I thought that we had to do something together “.
A few months later we created :
‘Toto and Daiana, football, coffee and fish and chips”. A project by Anna Elena Pepe and Marco Gambino.
Totò is a renowned Palermo chef who has worked in London for over 30 years as a food Consultant for the most important Italian restaurants in the Capital.
Daiana is a girl from Ferrara who has just moved to London and right now makes her living by being hairdresser from home.
These two very different characters will meet by chance in a Sicilian restaurant, when one day Daiana suddenly bursts in. She urgently needs to find a television to watch the match of her city’s team, SPAL, which , after 50 years is back in the big leagues
Against the backdrop of London, an exciting but also harsh city in the grip of Brexit, the stories of Toto and Daiana intertwine. Our heroes , united by the common destiny of expatriates, will be involved in a series of adventures which will consolidate their new special friendship thanks to which both of them will somehow manage too redirect their lives.
Totò and Diana is a project not only addressed to the community of Italians living in London but also to the English one and it aims to lead them both towards a better understanding of their different cultures.
Our Director Riccardo Sai says: “What does it mean to be an Italian emigrant in the United Kingdom in the shadow of Brexit? With Toto ‘and Daiana I want to talk about this subject without focusing only on the negative sides, but also exploring the most amusing and surreal aspects of it. I have chosen to talk about emigration in a lighter tone , making people ponder but also laugh , because I believe laughers are the best way to reach people’s hearts”.
The pilot of Totò and Daiana, which was finalist at the Rome Web Fest, is part of 8 new episodes which we will shoot this Spring.
